The Klingon T5 Assault Transport Tug.
-----------------------------------------------
Decades before "The Four Years War", "The Four Powers War" and the subsequent "General War", the Klingon High Command, along with the other races, regarded tugs as merely naval logistics support vessels with no real place in a war zone, being under powered, poorly defended and usually too slow to operate at fleet speeds, both under impulse power or at Warp. The Klingon Navy, like other races, operated millitarised versions of civilian commercial tugs or modified obstelete warship hulls into tugs.

However, with the introduction of newer and more tactically useful pod types into the Klingon Navy, such as the Troop Pod, it became clear that in order to exploit these that a more advanced tug design would be needed.

The T5 Assault Transport Tug was one of the earlier attempts at exploring combat capable tugs for the Klingons and it entered service in Earth year 2228. Their envisaged tactical role of the T5 was to transport large quanities of troops and their equipment inside a battle fleet or task force, then deploy them onto and objective, inside a combat zone. Being able to carry the Troop Pod increased the effectiveness of this capability and the T5 first saw action against the Hydrans, where it proved to be be the decisive factor in several major ground operations.

Unlike later tugs, such as the N5, N6, T6 and T7, the T5 could only cope with a single pod attachment as its B'anarix Warp engines were incapable of generating a suitable enveloping Warp field to achieve anything more than task. The T5 was capable of Warp Factor 5.8 when podless and Warp 5 with a pod attached.

Although capable of maintaining battle fleet speeds when it was first introduced, the T5 was structurally unable to be refitted with the later S-Graph Warp Engine Nacelles, which offered superiour performance to the B'anarix Warp engines. As the Klingon Navy refitted older warships or built new warships to incorporate the new S-Graph Warp engines, the T5 became obviously too slow and underpowered for fleet operations and was superceded by the N5, N6, T6 and T7 tugs, which were designed around the new S-Graph Warp engine. Lessons learnt from the T5 were incorporated into later tug designs.

Despite its increasing limitations, the T5 was still formed the backbone of the Klingon tug fleet during the "Four Years War" with the United Federation of Planets. However, by the time of the "Four Powers War" against the Hydrans and Kzinti, the T5 was rapidly being phased out in favour of the faster N5 light tug and other twin pod tug types.

As T5 was gradually phased out of service with the Klingon Deep Space Fleet, most were transferred to the Internal Security Fleet or Logistics Fleet. A few were sold to the Lyrans, assisting them greatly in experimenting with tactical tug operations and their own tug developments.

By some twist of irony, some T5 tugs were converted into Fleet Battle Tenders, designated the T5T, and used to convey replacement S-Graph Warp Nacelles, or other major parts, for battle damage repairs in the field.

Steps to install:
-----------------
(1) Unpack zipped file.

(2) Move the model folder to Starfleet Comamnd/Assets/Models folder. If you're smart enough to have all the races in seperate folders then place this ship in the Federation folder.

(3) Copy the Shiplist fragment and paste it into the appropriate race and part of your Shiplist file in Starfleet Command/Assets/Specs/Sfbspc13.txt

(4) Modify the model folder references to suit your own SFC models directory structure.

NOTE: You must have at least one stock SFC game ship in human player squadrons to use this ship in multiplayer games. However, AI player squadrons are not bound by this restiction/problem and can have all three ships as K-BRG if desired.

These ship has been put under the Klingon F for Freighters part of the SFBSPC13.TXT, so that it can be called up for use in scripts using the FMSE (Fleet Model Script Editor) software add on by Eagle Eye Software. If you want to actually be able to select this ship, in normal SFC select ships, you will have to move it into the FF, CL, CA or DN part of the listing.
